Learning object-eating-and-exercise

This applet is provided by the University of Colorado.  It is a simulation learning object to simulate how many calories intake in food and the amount of exercise to do affect the body weight and the chance of heart attack.

I believed that it is quite a funny and useful tools for teacher to use to explain the importance of balanced diet . Teaching students the concepts about balanced diet is quite a vague topic, as students (especially primary students) may not have the idea of calories and how the fat affected our body health.

By actually choosing the food that the students love to eat and their sport activities they usually do. The learning object then can stimulate the change of the body shape and weight according to the choice after a certiain amount of time. The choice of the students could be reflected on the result of the simulation. It gives them a clearer picture in their mind on how much or what kind of food they should choose or the amount of the exercise in order to keep fit. It also gives students a clearer message about the importance of the balanced diet.
