What do you think about the experimental classroom?
My point of view about the experimental classroom is that the design gives people a high-tech feeling, which suits the purpose of information technology education. Also, its design does not look like an ordinary classroom, the arrangement of the classroom is like meeting rooms without barrier. This can achieve interactive learning and teaching among other students and with the course instructor. In addition, the location of the classroom is conveniently located, so that students can reach there easily.
What are the room’s affordance and what are its weaknesses and disadvantages?
In my opinion, the room’s affordances are, first of all, the configuration is like grouping several meeting rooms together without barrier. Each “room” has its own laptop computer, video projector and television. This can make collaboration among a group of students and present their ideas to other groups of classmates and the instructors more easily. Second, there are many electric sockets provided for each table, which can make students bringing their laptop computers recharge their computers conveniently. Third, the room can give students a relax atmosphere, so that students will not feel stressed when having lessons. Also, the ceiling of the room is very high, giving students a feeling that the room is spacious and thus comfortable.
For the weaknesses, I think that the acoustics of the room is not so good. When a student is presenting in either upper part or the lower part of the room, students sitting in another part cannot hear what he/she is saying without using a microphone. This is due to the fact that the ceiling of the room is too high, sound losses easily in the atmosphere. Second, there are too many televisions in the room, making students easily be distracted by the neighboring ones during lessons.
Many good points, Kevin. I like your point about all the monitors and whiteboard. What was the thinking behind all of those monitors? It would be interesting to hear the reasoning.
回覆刪除Personally, I think presentations or TV is media that is essentially passive. As you correctly pointed out, a simple whiteboard (or ISB - interactive smart board) might help a lecturer use the technology to create more interactive learning activities.
